For one, it gave incredible exposure to the genre, achieving commercial success like no artist before him. The song’s success was a blessing and a curse, though. It was a bonafide megahit - it’s currently on 3.2 billion YouTube views - and rammed K-Pop into the cultural conscience all around the world.
